MYTH: It’s easiest to pay my child support or alimony payments in cash.

FACT: Paying cash may be easier in the short term, but in the long term it could cause a lot of problems. I recommend that you always make any type of support payment with a check in order to create a paper trail in case the other party alleges that you have not paid. If you must pay in cash, either deposit the money into an account set up to receive the payments or have the other person sign a receipt when you give them the cash. It is always best to have the ability to show documents verifying your payments, if the need arises.
